Attractions in the area - where to go and what to doNewcastle Emlyn
Approx. 5 miles. The busy local market town of Newcastle Emlyn has many attractions including antiques and craft shops, clothes shops, Newcastle Emlyn Castle, bakeries, butchers, pubs and restaurants. www.newcastle-emlyn.com CenarthApprox. 7 miles. The village of Cenarth is located at the Carmarthenshire / Ceredigion / Pembrokeshire border, on the banks of the river Teifi. The River Teifi at this point emerges from a deep ravine over a ledge that produces a spectacular set of falls when the river is in full flow. There are pubs, tea rooms, craft shops and the national coracle center, all worth a visit. Caws Cenarth Organic Cheese
Approx 4 miles: At Caws Cenarth you can watch the cheese being made from the viewing gallery and museum and taste the cheeses on offer free of charge. Thelma and Gwynfor's initiative is acknowledged to have instigated and led the revival of Welsh Farmhouse Caerffili and Caws Cenarth is now the oldest established producer of Welsh Farmhouse Caerffili. Approx 6 miles: The picturesque village of Dre-fach Felindre in the beautiful Teifi valley was once the centre of a thriving woollen industry, earning the nickname 'The Huddersfield of Wales'. Located in the historic former Cambrian Mills, the National Wool Museum is a special place with a spellbinding story to tell. The museum is open all year. Tourism Railways
Approx 7 miles: The Teifi Valley Railway at Henllan, near Newcastle Emlyn, is a narrow gauge railway, and the 'most laid back railway in West Wales'. Driving a little further towards Carmarthen is the Gwili Steam Railway, the only standard gauge steam railway in West Wales. The National Botanical Garden of Wales
Approx 20 miles: At the National Botanical Garden of Wales you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature up close at one of Britain's foremost nature attractions. Located in the Towy Valley, the park is surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful countryside, with plenty of things to see and do. You can experience Mediterranean conditions under a giant glass dome, the the largest single span glasshouse in the world. Enjoy gardens and architecture from around the world, sample Welsh cuisine, watch a 360-degree film, and learn about flora, fauna and the countryside in a unique and fun environment. Approx 18 miles: "The strangest town in Wales" is how Thomas described Laugharne on his first visit. But he kept coming back and the town is of huge significance to his work. The town of Llareggub ("bugger all" spelt backwards) in his radio play Under Milk Wood was based on Laugharne, and it was in his shed-cum-study above the Boathouse that he wrote it and many of his other works. Across the road from Browns hotel is the Pelican, the tall Georgian terraced house where Thomas would visit his father to do the crossword and chat. Castles
There are many fine castles in the area, Cilgerran in the lower reaches of the river Teifi. It is quite well preserved with excellent views over the river. Newcastle Emlyn has a picturesque ruin with an excellent walk along the river bank with its pretty weir that once supplied water to an early year hydro-electric power station that supplied the town. Approximately 14 miles north of Morlogws Farm you reach the Cardiganshire Coast. There are many great beaches, starting with Poppit Sands near St Dogmaels. Cardigan itself is a thriving market town with many small and interesting locally run shops. Further north is Aberporth, Tresaith, Penbryn and Cwmtudu all sandy beaches with their unique character. A little further up the coast is Aberporth, a small village with a picturesqe harbour and beach, and then you reach New Quay, a village with a beautiful beach from where you can take boat trips where you are likely to see dolphins. Approx 10 miles: Newquay including water sports. This is a real gem, a village nestling on a steep hillside overlooking Cardigan Bay. You will find a traditional fishing harbour now offering fishing trips and sightseeing where you will often be escorted by dolphins. Restaurants, cafes and pubs make it an idyllic place to spend a day or two. Boat Trips
These are available in many of the coastal villages along the whole of the Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire coastline, there are regular trips available to visit the famous bird sanctuaries of Skokholm, Skomer and Ramsey Islands, really worth a visit, booking essential. Horse Riding
